Hank joined the SUPERVALU University team in 2018 after spending over 20 years at Farm Fresh, a hometown favorite grocery retailer in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia for over 60yrs. Hank is passionate about training and development, merchandising, Food Safety and improving financial metrics through educating grocery retailers in supermarket math.
Hank’s supermarket experience began in 1992 with Gene Walter’s Marketplace in Norfolk, VA. This retail chain later merged with Farm Fresh where he held various roles to include Produce Manger, Enterprise Advantage Systems’ Trainer, Food Safety Compliance Specialist, Merchandising Trainer, and Operations Specialist. Hank served as the lead trainer implementing a new inventory and retail pricing system across the entire retail banner. Certified as a Super Safe Mark Trainer, he facilitated food safety education for all retail food handlers. In addition, Hank was instrumental in creating tools and conducting classes to educate retail management in the areas of purchase to sales, managing inventory, increasing gross profit and shrink reduction
In 2006 Hank completed the Responsible Sellers & Servers Virginia Program and Manager’s Alcohol Responsibility Training by VA Alcohol Beverage Company. He is also Food Safety Certified by the National Registry of Food Safety Professionals as well as Super Safe Mark Certified by the Food Marketing Institute.
