Tom Schaefer
Manager of SUPERVALU University
Tom joined the SVU team in 1993. Along with being an Instructor, Tom is responsible for overseeing the Instructor Continuing Education requirements along with the training schedule and assignments for all Instructors. Tom is also responsible for overseeing the Sales and Marketing efforts for SVU.
Professional Experience
Tom has provided training and consulting for grocery retailers for the past 19 years. His first role with SVU was focused on supporting the roll-out of SUPERVALU's Fresh Food Court format and the County Market Store format program. He also managed SUPERVALU's Retail Business Consultant training program for four years.
Prior to his tenure with SVU, Tom held the position of Retail Business Consultant in SUPERVALU's Midwest Region. During this time, he consulted with retailers on a variety of store formats and of different business and industry issues. His extensive experience in the grocery industry began in 1972 and has since held a number if retail management positions including Store Manager, Produce Manager and Store Owner.
Education
Tom is certified in Wilson Learning's Counselor Salesperson program and has been managing the Sales Training for SUPERVALU for the past 10 years. He is also certified in instructional design from the Center of Effective Performance, Inc. and is an Achieve Global certified trainer.
